StoneFire Design, Inc. (SFD) was opened in 2004 to offer a new perspective in custom home design and heating for the Northwest. Paul Henrichsen, the CEO/President/founder, brought thirty years of extensive experience in custom residential design.
At StoneFire Design, Inc., we believe that by offering an opportunity to live comfortably in a well designed home built of natural materials, consumes little energy and is warm and safe - provides a catalyst for inspirational and affordable environmental change. Tulikivi US, a subsidiary of Tulikivi Oy of Finland which was founded in 1979 in Finland, harnessed the most basic element of survival - fire, in perhaps the most artistic, sculptural and practical presentation known to date. Capitalizing on the unique properties of natural steatite (dense soapstone) , Tulikivi is a marvel of engineering technology. Warm to the touch, safe and clean Tulikivi remains a central element of inspiration to StoneFire Design clients.
As we have grown we have sought to include additional products and services that compliment the clean energy of Tulikivi. Innovative natural building materials, plus wind and solar powered alternatives enhance our client's independent vision, inspiring self sufficiency and awareness.
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete or AAC made by Xella/Hebel (Zella/Hay-ble) here in the US is an alternative building material that is made completely from natural resources. Buildings constructed with AAC reduce energy consumption by up to 40%, are built using existing masonry trades and blend seamlessly into our Northwest landscape. AAC is a highly desirable alternative to traditional wood frame construction, especially where moisture, wind, fire and seismic conditions are present and extreme. AAC has been used for over 30 years on the eastern and gulf coasts of the US and StoneFire Design is the exclusive northwest distributor for Hebel AAC products and services.

With the advent of efficient electric cars on the horizon by 2010 and other advancements in electrical appliances - harnessing your own options to create and manage electric energy has increasingly become our focus. Wind turbines for residential and small business use are practical, efficient and very well designed. Generating from 1.0 kWh up to 10 kWh affordable wind turbines are available today that tie into the grid or your personal battery storage system. You can benefit highly with up a $4,000.00 tax credit, recently approved by Congress in 2008 if you purchase and install any of our wind turbine systems.
Though wood has seemingly always been in plentiful supply in the NW alternatives to reduce the waste material of lumber mills has been an ongoing quest. Bio-fuels developed from 100% Douglas fir sawdust compressed under immense pressure are the natural solution. With only 8-10% moisture content, Bio-fuel logs burn at nearly 100% combustion and are safe for use in any wood burning appliance. As an example, emissions from a Tulikivi are 10 times cleaner than a catalytic wood stove using dry cord wood - even cleaner with Bio-fuel logs because of the low consistent moisture content. We are pleased to represent alternative energy products made in the Northwest that help relieve your aching back from chopping all that cord wood. Instead you can toss a few Bio-fuel logs on the fire and enjoy the ambience and high heat of really dry, clean wood.
